SXSW Web Awards 2009

I went to the SXSW web awards last night and was inspired! Amazing websites–not only were the designs inventive and creative, but there were a lot of examples of plain great ideas for websites. A few that caught my eye were:
- JasMax (Business winner). This site has a really cool (if somewhat finicky) navigation. Once you get to the service pages though, the design is bright, creative, and lovely to read.
- Modernista (another finalist in the business category). This site really takes the idea of a website to the next level. You’ll notice they don’t actually have any web pages of their own, per se… (sounds weird but you’ve got to see it for yourself). Similar to the new Skittles website that has been hotly debated in the web community.
- Project Miso (CSS winner). I really like the concept of this site. Imagine a large sheet of paper… now imagine moving across that sheet of paper to see the different pages of the site. No typical page reloading–this site is not only beautiful to look at, but it’s memorable and eye-catching (not bad qualities to have in a website!).
It was a great night! I’m looking forward to incorporating some of the things I’ve seen into new client work. Check out the winners in all categories.
